Portfolio Update - November 2023

The month of November 2023 was crazy in Canada.  The premier of Saskatchewan, Scott Moe, has stated that the Province of Saskatchewan will stop collecting carbon tax Jan 1 2024 on home heating using natural gas if an exemption on home heating is not made by the federal government.

Later in November, Scott Moe said the province will stop collecting the carbon tax on home heating via electricity on January 1 as well.

These acts by the premier of Saskatchewan is due to the federal government suspending the carbon tax on home heating by oil  across the country.  This suspension of the carbon tax benefits Atlantic Canada.

Also, rents across Canada have increased a lot over the last year.  This is mostly due to the interest rate increases, property tax increases and increased carbon tax.

The economy is starting to slow down with inflation being less than 4%.  I believe the interest rate will remain at 5% for the next few months.

The war in the middle east involving Israel started up again after a recent cease fire.

The S&P500 was up 5.42% over the past month.

The S&P TSX Composite Index was up 1.07% over the past month.
