Portfolio Update - November 2023

The month of November 2024 involved an US election for President of the United States.

On November 5th, Donald Trump won the election and will be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States in January 2025.

During the last few weeks, Donald Trump said he will place a 25% tariff on all products from Canada and Mexico, unless the countries tackle the flow of drugs and migrants across their borders.  Canada is taking this very serious.

In Canada, the liberal government is still in power.  In recent days, the federal liberal government tabled legislation to remove GST on certain products from December 14, 2024 to February 15, 2025.  The NDP voted with the liberal government, to the pass the legislation.  At the time of this writing, the legislation still has to be passed by the senate.

During November, Bell Canada released its earnings a few days after a major announcement.  The major announced was that Bell Canada Enterprises was purchasing Ziply Fiber in the United States.

The earnings release stated that Bell Canada Enterprises will not increase the dividend.  Both this announcement and purchase of Ziply Fiber lead to a massive sell off in the stock.

The S&P500 was up 1.58% over the past month.

The S&P TSX Composite Index was up 3.77% over the past month.

I have some other positions with the DRIP turned on but might not have enough of a dividend to purchase a whole share.

My Enbridge position directly with the transfer agent is set up to DRIP.  Around November 2018, Enbridge stopped their DRIP program.  If Enbridge decides to start a DRIP, then my shares will start to DRIP again automatically.
