Portfolio Update - July 2026

The month of July 2026 as ended and it was quite the month! 

The S&P 500 has been down 0.63% over the last month and up 0.34% over the last 5 days.

The S&P TSX Composite index has been down 0.14% over the last month and down 0.48% over the last 5 days.

Portfolio Activity

Margin Account Activity

On July 8, I sold 4 RCI.B.TO 07Aug2026 $54.00 covered call options at $0.07 per contract for a total net premium of $24.04 after commissions.  

On July 17, my covered call on NFI Group (NFI.TO) was assigned.  The strike price was $22.50.  My 200 shares were sold at $22.50 for proceeds of $4500.00. 

On July 20, I sold 2 NFI.TO 16Oct2026 $19.00 put options at $0.35 for a net premium of $68.02 . 

On July 21, I bought 0.773 shares of Canadian Pacific Railway (CP.TO) at $129.36 for a total cost of $100.00.  On the same day, I sold these shares at $129.45 for proceeds of $100.06.  The profit on this is $0.06.  Questrade started allowing fractional shares on Canadian stocks. The price of CP.TO has declined in recent days. 

On July 31, I bought 2.4032 shares if Canadian Pacific Railway at $124.83 for a total cost of $299.99.  Canadian Pacific Railway currently pays a dividend of $0.268 CAD per share quarterly, or $1.072 CAD per share annually.  

This purchase adds $2.58 CAD to my annual dividend income.

TFSA Activity

On July 3, I purchased 3 shares of Algonquin Power and Utilities (AQN.TO) at $7.87 CAD for a total cost of $23.61. Algonquin Power and Utilities currently pays a dividend of $0.065 USD per share quarterly, or $0.26 USD per share annually.  This is equivalent to $0.365 CAD per share annually.

This purchase adds $1.10 CAD to my annual dividend income.

On July 21,  I averaged down on my Telus position.  I purchased 4 share of Telus (T.TO)  at $14.25 per share for a total cost of $57.00 .  On July 31 , I purchased 3 more shares at $13.15 per unit for a total cost of $39.45 CAD.  

On July 28, I added 2 shares of Brookfield Renewable Corporation (BEPC.TO) at $45.00 for a total cost of $90.00.  Currently, Brookfield Renewable Corporation pays a dividend $0.392 USD per share quarterly, or $1.568 USD per share annually.  This is equivalent of $2.20 CAD per share annually.

This purchase adds $4.40 CAD to my annual dividend income.

1 unit of HHIS.TO @ $11.5691 for a total cost of $11.57 CAD (TFSA)

1 share  of QSR.TO @ $75.0917 USD for a total cost of $105.24 CAD (Margin)

1 unit  of REI.UN @ $22.87809 for a total cost of $22.88 CAD (TFSA)

4 shares of AQN.TO @ $5.83848 USD for a total cost of $32.39 CAD (TFSA)

1 unit of AP.UN @ $10.24 for a total cost of $10.24 CAD (TFSA)

1 unit of KMP.UN @ $19.06 for  a total cost of $19.06 CAD (TFSA)

1 unit of SRU.TO @ $30.19602 for a total cost of $30.20 CAD (TFSA)

I have some other positions with the DRIP turned on but might not have enough of a dividend to purchase a whole share. 

My Enbridge position directly with the transfer agent is set up to DRIP.  Around November 2018, Enbridge stopped their DRIP program.  If Enbridge decides to start a DRIP, then my shares will start to DRIP again automatically.  

Dividend Increases

On July 28th, Capital Power Corporation (CPX.TO) increased their dividend from $0.6910 CAD to $0.7048 CAD per share quarterly, or $2.764 CAD to $2.8192 CAD per share annually.  This is an increase of 1.997%. 

I own 100 shares of Capital Power.  This increase adds $5.52 CAD to my annual dividend income. 

Dividend Decreases

On July 31, Telus Corporation (T.TO) decreased their dividend from $0.4184 CAD to $0.1875 CAD per share quarterly, or from $1.6736 CAD to $0.75 CAD per annually.  This is an decrease of 55.2%. 

I own 560 shares of Telus (in Margin and TFSA).  This decrease reduces my annual dividend income by $517.22 CAD .

For disclosure: I also own 17 shares of Telus in my RRSP, but that is not included in the blog.

Summary: 

As of August 2 2026, the total value of the portfolio is $401618.56 . This is a 1.145% increase over last month's total.

The portfolio is estimated to produce an estimate $13956.62 CAD in dividend income over the next 12 months. This is an decrease of $500.09 CAD , or 3.46%. Some of the dividends in the Canadian stocks section are paid in US dollars, which are converted to Canadian dollars.

Googlesheets is still not operating properly.  So, I had to manually enter the market value for the REITS, BEP.UN, and BPF.UN.

Any dividend increases or decreases in August 2026 will be included in the next portfolio update.

Brookfield Renewables Partners (BEP.UN) pays distributions in US dollars. My investment tab spreadsheet displays the Canadian dollar equivalent within 15 to 20 minutes of real time.
