Dividend Income - April 2014

The month of April 2014 is another month of increasing dividend income. This money is used to help pay my expenses if it is needed. If the money is not needed it is ALL used to purchase new investments to further increase my cash flow.

Non-registered Account
  • Killam Properties (KMP)  - $5.75
  • Shaw Communications (SJR.B)    - $18.33
  • Just Energy (JE) - $47.88
  • Enerplus (ERF)  -$ 45.54
  • Bell Canada (BCE) - $  61.75
  • Bank Of Nova Scotia (BNS) -  $7.30
TFSA
  • Killam Properties (KMP) - $  14.00
  • Dundee REIT   (D.UN)  - $ 16.61
  • Cominar REIT (C.UN) - $5.28
  • Boston Pizza  Royalties Fund (BPF.UN)   - $23.87
Total = $246.31

This total represents a 5.29% increase from 3 months ago and 7.80%  year over year.  This is a small increase, but an increase I will definitely take.

I also received another distribution payment of $56.00 for my swing trade in Dundee REIT in my non-registered account. This is not listed above since it is a trade, so I keep the money in the account and do not pay myself first with this payment. I have received $539.47 in distributions so far on this trade.

I will update my dividend income tab with the new amount.

Disclosure : Long all securities above.

  1. IP,

    Great looking month there!

And I hear you. The passive income can definitely be used to pay expenses if needed, but in the meantime it's awesome to be able to reinvest it to increase the income even more. :)

    Best wishes!

    1. Dividend Mantra,

It sure feels great to have this income coming in every month and not have to "physically work for it" after purchasing the investments. Just about 3.5 years ago, I had zero dividend income.

  2. IP,

You have a real nice income for starting your dividend portfolio so recently. I have to say a strong start. Keep at it. I'll be following you to see how you are doing in the coming months. It's nice to watch the effects of compounding.

    1. Asset-Grinder,

I definitely love those monthly paying REITs. My investment in Dundee REIT came about as a takeover of Whiterock REIT. I have written a few posts on Dundee REIT, which you can view in the labels on the right hand side of the blog.

  4. DSF,

The dividend growth is good. DRIPS helped out also. I also would like to point out, as a result of all my DRIPs that I did, I now average about $12.00 a month in dividends from the free shares I picked up through DRIP.
